Homeless Man Charged in String of TTC Station Assaults

Toronto Police are seeking tips on the whereabouts of a homeless man accused of stealing a fire extinguisher from a TTC station earlier this week in Midtown Toronto before allegedly assaulting two people.

The incident occurred at Rosedale Station on Monday at about 2:45 p.m., when the accused allegedly stole the fire extinguisher and left the station, approaching two victims who attempted to flee.

One of the victims fell to the ground and was allegedly assaulted by the accused, while the other victim tried to stop him and was also assaulted. The accused fled before police arrived, while the victims were hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Logan Cachene, 21, of no fixed address, is wanted for aggravated assault, assault, theft under $5,000 and failure to comply with a release order.

He is described as being about 5-foot-7 with a heavy build, short, black, curly hair and a black goatee.

Toronto Police are also warning about a distraction theft scheme after charging a man and a woman accused of two such incidents in recent months in Etobicoke.

The suspects allegedly approached a victim outside of her residence, engaging her in a conversation and demanding she gift her with jewelry. The victim refused, but the suspects allegedly removed her jewelry anyway and replaced it with cheaper pieces.

Police responded to another theft call in the same area, where the suspects were again driving in the area and approached the same victim outside of her residence, trying to converse with her and take more jewelry. However, they were recognized and police were contacted.

 Ilie Calin, 26, of Toronto, is charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Additionally, a Mississauga man has been charged in a human-trafficking probe and shots were fired at a Whitchurch-Stouffville home, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies in the region.
