Linda Noskova stormed to the Wimbledon title, defeating Karolina Muchova in a thrilling all-Czech final.
The 21-year-old Noskova, the youngest Wimbledon finalist since Eugenie Bouchard in 2014, dominated the first set 6-2 and took a 5-2 lead in the second. However, Muchova rallied superbly, breaking back twice and saving five championship points to take the second set 7-5.
Despite being on the brink of defeat, Noskova composed herself impressively in between sets and roared back in the decider, winning 6-3 in the third set to claim her first Grand Slam title.
Muchova has now lost in both of her Grand Slam final appearances, having also fallen short in the 2023 French Open. Former tennis champion John McEnroe was stunned by Muchova's early struggles, saying she looked "lost" and "didn't know what to do" in the first set.
McEnroe was particularly critical of Muchova's approach to returning Noskova's serve, saying she was giving up too much ground and didn't cut the angle off at all. However, he praised Noskova's resilience and character, saying it was one of the "all-time greatest efforts mentally" he had seen on the court.
Two-time Grand Slam champion Tracy Austin also praised Noskova's comeback, saying it was more impressive to come back after missing five championship points and regroup to take the third set 6-3.
