The FBI has arrested an individual accused of deploying an explosive device outside 26 Federal Plaza in New York City, a federal building housing three important immigration agencies.
The suspect, identified as a 43-year-old male, had been found to have an unidentified liquid on him and was carrying a sign that read "ICE Off Our Streets" during the attack, according to the FBI.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 AM, and the suspect allegedly put the liquid down, set some fireworks on top of it, causing a small fire, before fleeing the scene.
The suspect had a history of anti-ICE activity, according to the FBI, and the attack highlighted the contentious issue of immigration in the United States.
The building, located at 26 Federal Plaza, is the Jacob K. Javits Federal Office Building, and houses the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR / Immigration Court), and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Additional footage of the suspect showed him dumping a bucket containing flammable liquid and other objects on the north side of the building before setting it ablaze and running away.
