A former substitute teacher in Indiana has been sentenced to two years in prison for sending nude photos to a 14-year-old middle school student.
Cassidy Carter, 21 at the time of the incident, was employed as a substitute teacher for the South Dearborn Community School Corporation and worked at South Dearborn Middle School from September to November 2023.
According to authorities, Carter sent the explicit images of herself to the student via Snapchat every time she took a shower, often late at night. She also allegedly told the student that she was in love with him and wanted to have sex with him.
The student became friends with Carter online and eventually reported the incident to a school resource officer in December 2023.
Carter pleaded guilty to one count of battery resulting in moderate bodily injury and was given two days of credit for time served. She was originally charged with one count of child solicitation, but the charge was dropped due to the victim's wishes.
The case highlights the importance of investigating such incidents and ensuring that students feel comfortable coming forward to report abuse. As the sheriff noted, "the fact that they felt comfortable enough to tell an adult to bring this forward was an important part of this investigation.
