Network Rail has announced a major £20 million investment, aimed at improving passenger safety and increasing reliability of train services. The major upgrade involves upgrading tracks, platforms, and strengthening Victorian-era structures to ensure they can withstand the test of time. The work will be consolidated into a 22-day closure, supported by weekend preparations, to complete the project more quickly and minimize disruption to passengers. Despite the lower passenger numbers during the summer months, school holidays, and reduced traffic, the decision to close the stations was made for the safety of passengers.
