The shooting occurred at a Minnesota apartment building where a dispute over a parking garage contract allegedly escalated into a deadly rampage. Three property managers were killed in the incident.
The suspect, identified as a 30-year-old man, was charged with three counts of second-degree murder with intent. The investigation revealed that the man, who had previously sold his car, called the apartment building to cancel his monthly $65 parking contract but was informed that the contract could not be canceled due to a recent renewal.
Despite being told otherwise, the man allegedly decided to go to the management office in person to resolve the issue. Once there, he opened fire, killing all three victims. Police found 21 9 mm shell casings in the leasing office.
A roommate of the suspect spoke with authorities, revealing that the man had aspirations of joining the U.S. Navy and had sold his car the same day as the shooting. The roommate also stated that the suspect had quit his job as a trucker two months prior and had planned on enlisting in the military.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed the suspect talking with two of the victims before the shooting. The footage allegedly captured the suspect pulling out his gun and shooting one of the victims multiple times.
Prosecutors said the suspect was arrested while driving one of the victim's cars, which contained what appeared to be newly purchased camping gear. Inside the vehicle, authorities found the suspect's U.S. passport, Social Security card, an empty handgun magazine, and his gun permit.
During an interview with investigators, the suspect allegedly expressed frustration with the "prolonged immigration process" and not being able to bring his wife and children to the United States for seven years, which he said contributed to his divorce and separation from his children.
The suspect remains in police custody, facing charges of second-degree murder with intent.
