A quiet lunch break for students at Maxwell Heights Secondary School in Oshawa shattered on Thursday when two teenagers, ages 14 and 16, were suddenly attacked and stabbed. The incident unfolded just off school grounds, near the intersection of Coldstream Drive and Harmony Road North, sending a wave of fear through the community.
Police responded to the scene around 12:30 p.m., finding both students already injured. Emergency services swiftly transported them to hospitals in the Toronto area, thankfully reporting their injuries as non-life-threatening. The school immediately initiated a “hold-and-secure” protocol, a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff while officers began a thorough search.
The search focused on two suspects: a Black male, believed to be between 15 and 16 years old with a light complexion, last seen wearing a black tracksuit; and another Black male, age 15, with a darker complexion, also wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit. As of Thursday night, both remained at large, prompting continued investigation and a heightened police presence at the school on Friday to offer reassurance.
Meanwhile, in Markham, police have made an arrest in connection with a brazen home invasion that occurred in May. Jordan White-Djulus, 20, of Toronto, now faces charges of robbery with a weapon and disguise with intent. He was already on a release order for unrelated offenses at the time of the incident.
The May 11th invasion took place shortly before 6 a.m. on Laureleaf Road, near Bayview Avenue. Three suspects fled the scene empty-handed, but investigators have released an image of White-Djulus hoping to identify his accomplices. The remaining suspects are described as Black men in their early 20s, both slim and wearing black tracksuits, masks, and gloves.
In Vaughan, vigilance from a concerned citizen prevented another crime. A resident noticed two women attempting a jewelry distraction theft against an elderly neighbor near Major Mackenzie Drive and Islington Avenue. The quick thinking of the witness allowed police to intercept and arrest Roxana Vasile, 31, and Daruinta Strirbu, both from Toronto, who now face charges of theft and attempted offense.
Investigators believe Vasile and Strirbu may have targeted other victims and have released their photos to the public. They were operating from a black Ford Edge, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Toronto Police are also warning residents in the Malvern area about a series of street robberies targeting women walking alone. Between November 1st and 13th, three separate incidents occurred in the evenings near Morningside Avenue and Finch Avenue East, and Neilson Road and Finch Avenue East.
In each case, the suspect approached the victims from behind, snatching their phones and purses. Fortunately, none of the victims sustained injuries. The suspect is described as a Black man, between 20 and 30 years old, wearing a black coat. Police are urging increased awareness and caution in the area.
