The appeal follows recent disclosures that intelligence agencies allegedly concealed evidence of Chinese election interference from the president during the 2020 election cycle.
Documents released after a July 16 address allege that the National Security Agency and other intelligence entities withheld election‑related intelligence from congressional briefings and the Presidential Daily Briefing throughout 2020.
One excerpt reportedly contains an NSA strategic analyst stating that the daily briefing was deliberately altered to avoid direct links to the election. The admission suggests intentional manipulation of intelligence reporting.
The alleged interference began in 2018, according to the documents, and includes claims that China accessed roughly 220 million voter records to harvest personal identifying information.
Additional allegations describe the importation of about 20,000 counterfeit driver’s licenses for use in 2020 voter registrations and a coordinated campaign to undermine the president through social media, journalists, and pressure on political and financial supporters.
The documents further assert that multiple intelligence agencies—including the NSA, FBI, CIA, and the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research—conspired to suppress the intelligence throughout 2020, despite objections from career staffers within the NSA and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
A dissenting official reportedly questioned the decision to keep the presidential daily briefing disconnected from election matters, describing the rationale as incomprehensible.
