The alert, rated severe, instructed employees to shelter in place while others were told to avoid the affected zones. Standard protection protocols were activated, including a shelter‑in‑place order for the area.
According to information obtained by UMVA, hazardous materials teams are scrubbing the Pentagon’s A ring, the building’s central section, after sensors detected a biohazard scent in the air.
Approximately twenty‑three to twenty‑seven thousand personnel work in the Pentagon daily, and the lockdown did not extend to the offices of the Secretary of Defense or the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.
Response teams remain on site, ready to support occupants as investigators continue to assess the significance of the air quality issue.
