The Supertri Toronto event, previously known as the Toronto Triathlon Festival, will disrupt downtown traffic this Sunday as it reclaims high-traffic areas including the Gardiner Expressway, Don Valley Parkway, and Lake Shore Blvd. W. Drivers are urged to anticipate delays, plan alternative routes, and adhere to detour instructions from police and event staff.
Now in its 13th iteration, the triathlon is touted as one of North America’s most iconic urban races. The event features a 1.5-km swim at Ontario Place, a 40-km cycling segment along the Gardiner and DVP, and a 10-km run on Lake Shore Blvd. Officials estimate the gathering will draw over 1,750 competitors and 200 volunteers.
To ensure safety for participants, spectators, and volunteers, temporary road and lane closures will be enforced around Exhibition Place. Specific disruptions include westbound Lake Shore Blvd. W. from New Brunswick Way to British Columbia Rd. closing between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m., and eastbound Gardiner Expressway segments from the Humber River to the DVP shutting down from 2 a.m. to noon.

Fortunately, major professional sports teams will avoid overlapping with the event. The Blue Jays are in Boston for a Red Sox series, while the Argonauts and Toronto FC compete in Vancouver and Washington, D.C., respectively. The Toronto Raptors, meanwhile, have an eight-day break before their next match.
Toronto’s new traffic chief, Andrew Posluns, has prioritized addressing construction challenges and preparing for the World Cup. He noted the city is also testing cameras to deter illegal streetcar door-passing, though details remain under evaluation.
