Former Man Utd Captain Bryan Robson Calls for Hijacking of £100m

Former Man Utd Captain Bryan Robson Calls for Hijacking of £100m

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes as a potential replacement for Casemiro, who left the club in the summer. Former United captain Bryan Robson believes Guimaraes would be an ideal signing for the Red Devils, praising his attitude, work ethic, and intelligence on the pitch.

Guimaraes has been one of the most influential midfielders in the Premier League since his move from Lyon in 2022, helping Newcastle qualify for the Champions League and win the Carabao Cup. Manchester United have already signed two midfielders this summer, bringing in Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.

According to reports, Arsenal initially believed a fee of around £60m would be enough to strike a deal for Guimaraes, but Newcastle may ask for up to £100m given the current climate in the transfer market.

Manchester United Legends v Celtic Legends

Robson, who captained United to numerous titles in the 1980s, has high praise for Guimaraes. "Bruno Guimaraes would be the right player for Manchester United to replace Casemiro," he said. "He's got a great attitude, he's carried himself really well at Newcastle, and he's such an intelligent player."

Robson believes Guimaraes can excel in both attacking and defensive roles, much like Casemiro, and has the engine to cover a lot of ground on the pitch. However, he raises a question mark over whether Guimaraes would be available for transfer this summer, given his importance to Newcastle's team.

Not everyone shares Robson's enthusiasm for Guimaraes, however. Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has expressed doubts about the midfielder's quality, suggesting that he is only "a solid player" and not a game-changer. Yorke was unimpressed with Guimaraes' performances for Brazil at the World Cup and believes that Manchester United should be looking for players who can take them to the next level.

While Guimaraes' future at Newcastle remains uncertain, one thing is clear: he is one of the most talented midfielders in the Premier League, and his signature would be a significant coup for any top-tier club.
