Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate from Maine, Troy Jackson, has confirmed that he is married to his second cousin and that the couple has two children together.
The campaign did not dispute the familial relationship, instead describing recent reports as personal attacks on Jackson’s family.
In a statement, the campaign characterized the scrutiny as an attempt to divert attention from the incumbent’s voting record, labeling the focus on Jackson’s family as shameful and desperate.
Genealogical records show that Jackson and his wife share the same great‑grandparents, making them second cousins on the Pelletier line.
Jackson, a veteran politician and lobbyist with more than two decades of experience, frequently highlights his heritage as a fifth‑generation logger.
