The heavy metal band Slipknot has reportedly undergone a significant change, with founding member Sid Wilson being permanently removed from the group after nearly three decades.
Slipknot, known for hit songs likeDualityandPyschosocial, was founded in Des Moines, Iowa in 1995 and features guitarists Jim Root and Mick Thomson, singer Corey Taylor, and percussionist Shawn Crahan.
The departure of Wilson, 49, who served as the band's DJ and keyboardist, was first reported by TMZ, although the publication did not provide a reason for his removal.
Jim Root, one of the band's guitarists, seemingly addressed the news on social media with a cryptic statement, urging fans to "stop, think, and wait" before drawing conclusions.
Slipknot has experienced its share of upheaval over the years, including the departure of original drummer Joey Jordison in 2013 and the passing of original bassist Paul Taylor in 2010.
The band's sophomore album,Iowa, peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 chart and earned Slipknot 11 Grammy nominations, including a win for best metal performance withBefore I Forgetin 2005.
Wilson's departure comes on the heels of a tumultuous year, which included the end of his engagement to on-and-off girlfriend Kelly Osbourne.
The pair, who met in 1999, welcomed their son, Sidney, in 2022 and got engaged in 2025, before quietly calling off the wedding.
Osbourne has since expressed her ambivalence towards dating, stating that she's focused on being a single mother and has no interest in pursuing romantic relationships.
