California counselor alleged sexual assault of teen

A California behavioral health clinician is accused of grooming a teenage boy while he was a patient at a juvenile detention center and later raping him after his release. The accusations center on a pattern of sexual misconduct that began when the teenager was a minor.

The alleged victim was 14 when the clinician, who had been assigned as his therapist, began the relationship. After his release in April, the clinician allegedly continued the abuse for more than three months until her arrest on July 14.

Law enforcement received a tip from a supervisor in the probation department, leading to the clinician’s arrest by Concord Police. The arrest followed an internal investigation triggered by concerns about the clinician’s conduct.

The boy’s family has filed a civil lawsuit against Contra Costa County, alleging that supervisory staff failed to detect warning signs and that institutional protocols were ineffective. The lawsuit claims the clinician abused her professional position to establish an inappropriate emotional connection and groom the teen for sexual exploitation.

The charges against the clinician include grooming, sexual assault, sexual penetration with a foreign object, sending harmful material to a minor, oral copulation with a person under 18, and possession of child pornography. The case underscores the need for robust oversight in youth correctional settings.

In a separate case, a 65‑year‑old British teacher was found guilty of repeatedly abusing a 10‑year‑old boy over a four‑year period. The case highlights the vulnerability of minors in educational settings.

The victim, now in his forties, testified that the teacher, who had been his private tutor, engaged in sexual acts and encouraged the child to touch her, describing the teacher as a friend and confidant. The teacher was convicted on eight counts of gross indecency with a boy under 14 and faces jail time upon sentencing in October.

The court proceedings are ongoing.
