Two men have been charged with multiple offenses related to the alleged trafficking of minors in the Greater Toronto Area, involving locations in Hamilton and Toronto.
The investigation, launched by the Major Drugs and Gangs Unit’s Human Trafficking Unit in May, began after authorities received information that several youths were being trafficked.
Officers subsequently identified and arrested Shemar Walters, 27, of Toronto, and Ethan Gangasingh, 20, of Brampton.
Walters faces charges of two counts of trafficking persons under 18, two counts of procuring for sexual services under 18, two counts of material benefit from trafficking a person under 18, one count of advertising sexual services, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking, and proceeds of crime under $5,000. He is currently held for a bail hearing.
Gangasingh is charged with two counts of procuring for sexual services under 18, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking, proceeds of crime under $5,000, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Gangasingh appeared in court on Monday and was released from custody following his appearance.
Investigators continue to pursue the case, seeking further evidence and potential additional victims.
