A 27-year-old man, Elijah Bieniemy, has been arrested in Virginia and is facing charges related to a shooting that occurred at his family's home on Sunday.

According to a news release from the Loudon County Sheriff's Office, Elijah Bieniemy is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. He is charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling.

The incident occurred just after 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, when deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the family's home. An adult female was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital.

The victim, identified as Mia Bieniemy, Elijah's mother and Eric's wife, is in stable condition as of Monday morning. Eric Bieniemy, the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, was with the team at their practice facility in St. Joseph, Missouri, earlier in the day but left to support his family.

Head coach Andy Reid told reporters on Monday that the team's thoughts and prayers are with Eric Bieniemy and his family. Reid noted that Eric will work through the situation and that there is no timetable for his return to the team.

Eric Bieniemy has a long history with the Kansas City Chiefs, serving as running backs coach from 2013 to 2018 before being promoted to offensive coordinator. He left the team briefly to work with the Washington Commanders, Chicago Bears, and UCLA Bruins before returning to the Chiefs in January.

The family's other son, Eric Jr., is safe and unharmed. Eric Bieniemy's wife, Mia, is being hailed as a "saint" by those who know her, and the team is rallying around the family during this difficult time.
