Bonnie Tyler, the Welsh vocalist celebrated for her 1983 anthem “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” died at the age of 75 in a hospital in Portugal.
Her death follows a serious illness that emerged after an emergency intestinal operation in May, which placed her in an induced coma.
The family issued a brief statement expressing profound grief and asking for privacy while they mourn the loss.
Tyler was also known for a 2007 appearance on a popular music panel show, where she arrived visibly intoxicated after drinking a glass of red wine.
During the broadcast, the host teased her condition, and she responded with a playful declaration that the wine was “good for your heart.”
Despite slurred speech, Tyler launched into a powerful rendition of her signature hit, a moment that quickly became a viral highlight.
Viewers praised her humor and willingness to join the banter, noting that her vocal strength remained unmistakable.
At the time of her death, Tyler was slated to perform at a summer festival in Worcester and at a December concert in Cardiff, both of which have now been cancelled.
