A woman named Lauren Evans faced legal consequences for a false claim she made about being sexually assaulted, leading to an extensive police investigation.
Evans, hailing from Maidstone, created a deceptive narrative about being stopped by a man claiming to work for Kent Police in a non-marked car. Upon arriving at the workplace, she falsely presented the alleged assault as the reason for her tardiness.
The deceptive act led to a year-long investigation involving over 30 detectives and consuming 1,500 hours of police work. Southwark Crown Court ultimately ruled that the lie escalated out of control.
Evans was convicted of perverting the course of justice and was sentenced to a year in prison. The case was subsequently submitted to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence Scheme, which resulted in her sentence being doubled to two years.
Given that she has already served her time, Evans must now return to the prison
