A dispute erupted on a 6 a.m. American Airlines flight from New York to Los Angeles when a first‑class passenger was asked to relinquish his seat to another traveler.
The passenger, identified as Justin Escalona, said he was initially approached with a request to swap seats, which he accepted. After moving, he was informed that the new seat would not recline, prompting him to return to his original seat.
According to Escalona, the other passenger then occupied his original seat in row 6A and refused to move despite his objections. The confrontation was recorded on video and captured the brief exchange between the two travelers.
Escalona, who was traveling in first class after receiving a complimentary upgrade, noted that the woman had purchased a seat in the economy section. He described the incident as a “squabble” that disrupted the cabin but concluded without further escalation.
Flight tracking data indicates the aircraft departed on schedule and arrived in Los Angeles shortly after 9 a.m., with no reported delays to the overall flight.
American Airlines was contacted for comment regarding the incident.
