Legendary jockey Frankie Dettori has been rushed to hospital with several broken bones after a horror car crash in Newmarket, Suffolk, on Wednesday evening.
The 55-year-old was travelling in a car when it was struck by another vehicle, causing the rear passenger side to be hit. The car reportedly spun out and flipped over, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene.
Dettori was taken to hospital, where he was treated for a broken thumb and several broken ribs. He has remained in hospital for further observation while his injuries are still being assessed.
The accident comes just two months before Dettori was due to make his long-awaited return to the saddle in a race at Doncaster. The former jockey was known for his trademark flying dismount and has long been recognised as one of the greatest flat jockeys in horse racing history.
Dettori has not ridden in Britain since October 2023, when he won the Champion Stakes on King Of Steel at Ascot. However, he was due to return in the Leger Legends race at Doncaster during the St Leger Festival in September.
His focus now is on resting and recovering, and H Talent Management respectfully asks that Dettori's privacy is respected at this time. No further comment will be made until there is a meaningful update on his condition.
