A 82-year-old man, previously convicted of sexual abuse, has been charged with four new sexual offences dating back to 1978.
The Crown Prosecution Service announced the charges against the man, who was a singer and known by the stage name Gary Glitter, for allegedly abusing a young girl between 1978 and 1981.
The charges include one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14.
The deputy chief crown prosecutor at CPS London stated that the decision to bring the case to court was made after allegations were made by a woman and that there is sufficient evidence to proceed.
The man is currently serving a sentence in jail for previous sexual offences and was recently questioned by police over fresh allegations.
The investigation into the new allegations is ongoing, and the victim is being supported by specialist officers.
The police have stated that anyone reporting non-recent sexual offences will be listened to and supported, and that they have expanded safeguarding teams and rolled out training on victim approach in the past year.
