Teen charged with assault by vehicular ramming of police cruiser in Ajax; Oshawa cab driver threatened at knifepoint

A 16-year-old boy from Ajax has been charged with multiple offences after allegedly ramming a police cruiser with a pickup truck. The incident occurred on June 11 at approximately 1:30 a.m. in a parking lot near Kingston and Westney Roads in Ajax, where officers had spotted the Ford pickup truck driving erratically. When officers attempted to contain the vehicle during a traffic stop, the driver rammed a cruiser and fled the scene. The vehicle was later found parked in the Bayly St. E.-Burcher Rd. area and was determined to be stolen.

The teen was taken into custody and charged with impaired operation, impaired operation exceeding the limit, flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation, driving a motor vehicle while suspended, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and two counts of failure to comply with a release order. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with video footage or information about the incident is encouraged to come forward.

In a separate incident, a 15-year-old boy has been accused of threatening a taxi driver in Oshawa while armed with a knife. The victim reported that the suspect brandished a firearm concealed in his waistband before fleeing the vehicle. Police used a drone to locate the suspect, who was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit. A large knife was found during a search, and the 15-year-old was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, and uttering threats.

An elderly woman was also the victim of a distraction theft in Mississauga last month. The incident occurred on June 26 at approximately 4:20 p.m. in the Garnetwood Chase-Rathburn Rd. E. area, where the victim was approached by an unknown female who was a passenger in a blue Kia Sportage. The female repeatedly asked the victim if she was okay while placing a fake gold chain around her neck, and when the victim pushed her away and called for help, a male suspect exited the vehicle and briefly covered her mouth in an apparent attempt to silence her.

The victim's 18-karat gold necklace and a pendant, valued at approximately $3,500, were stolen during the scuffle. The suspects fled in the Kia, which did not have license plates and was last seen fleeing westbound on Rathburn. Police are reminding residents to be cautious when approached by strangers offering assistance, gifts, or jewelry, as distraction thefts often involve suspects creating a diversion to steal valuable property.

In another incident, a bystander was assaulted in Oshawa while trying to stop a fight. A man is accused of attacking the bystander with a brick, and an investigation is underway. The details of the incident are still emerging, and police are working to piece together the events surrounding the altercation.
