President Donald Trump criticized Senators Thom Tillis and John Cornyn on Saturday for their attempts to block the confirmation of Todd Blanche as Attorney General.
Trump announced that he will continue to advocate for legislation he calls the Anti‑Weaponization Bill, which he says would restore a $1.776 billion fund intended to compensate individuals he alleges were harmed by previous administrations.
The president stated that the fund, previously halted, would be reinstated through the bill after the current administration leaves office.
During a recent cabinet meeting, Trump defended the fund and accused the Biden and Obama administrations of using government power against citizens, alleging widespread damage and wrongful imprisonment.
He claimed to have been personally mistreated more than anyone in history, while explicitly refusing to be a beneficiary of the proposed compensation.
Trump described Todd Blanche as a highly qualified candidate and argued that Senate opposition reduces him to a political pawn.
The president suggested that Senator Cornyn’s opposition stems from a personal grievance after Trump endorsed a primary challenger.
He acknowledged that the proposed legislation is currently stalled but expressed a desire to see victims compensated.
Trump warned that if the Senate does not confirm Blanche, he will retain Blanche as acting Attorney General while pursuing the Anti‑Weaponization Bill.
He concluded by urging swift action on the legislation.
