Apple Revises Security Update Distribution to Counter AI‑Driven Threats

The latest security patch for iOS has been released, addressing 29 vulnerabilities in the operating system. The patches, which have been issued to prevent potential exploitation, include fixes for issues related to system termination, kernel memory, and web content processing.

IOGPUFamily is one of the affected components, where an app may cause unexpected system termination. The issue was addressed with improved state handling to prevent the problem.

Another set of vulnerabilities affects the kernel, where an app may be able to leak sensitive kernel state or cause unexpected system termination. These issues were addressed with improved input sanitization and input validation to prevent exploitation.

The libxslt library was also found to be vulnerable, where processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to an unexpected process crash. This issue was addressed with improved memory management to fix the problem.

Web Extensions and WebKit were also found to be vulnerable, where a malicious web extension or web content may cause an unexpected process crash or disclose sensitive user information. These issues were addressed with improved memory management, tracking of security origins, and input validation to prevent exploitation.

Visiting certain websites may also leak sensitive data due to a permissions issue. This problem was addressed with additional restrictions to prevent the issue.

A malicious website may also exfiltrate data cross-origin or lead to an unexpected process crash. These issues were addressed with improved input validation and memory handling to prevent exploitation.

Processing maliciously crafted web content may also lead to memory corruption or an unexpected Safari crash. These issues were addressed with improved memory management, bounds checking, and input validation to fix the problem.

Additionally, a malicious website may be able to process restricted web content outside the sandbox. This issue was addressed with improved input validation to prevent the problem.

Users can update to the latest iOS version, iOS 26.5.2, by enabling Automatic Updates or manually checking for software updates in the Settings app.

It is recommended to install the security patch as soon as possible to prevent potential exploitation of the identified vulnerabilities.

The security patch will address all 29 vulnerabilities and provide a secure environment for users to browse the web and access sensitive information.
