The retail giant has issued a public apology after discovering that certain products on their shelves contain asbestos, a hazardous material known to cause serious health problems.
According to recent findings, more than a dozen doorstops and draught excluders sold by the company contain asbestos, which can lead to lung damage and cancer. The material releases tiny fibres into the air, causing chronic inflammation of lung tissue when inhaled.
As a result, the number of products removed from UK shelves due to asbestos in the last six months has increased to 166. Those who have purchased the affected doorstops are advised to follow specific disposal guidelines to ensure their safety.
For undamaged products, users should place them in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double-taped and clearly labelled, and keep them away from children. In cases where items are damaged, users should use damp cloths to clean areas where the filling is visible, preventing dust from forming.
Throughout this process, masks and gloves should be worn, and the items, along with the cloths used, should be discarded. Customers can visit their nearest store for a full refund, or contact their local council for advice on safe asbestos disposal if they are unable to reach a store.
