Typhoon Bavi Makes Landfall in the Philippines, Triggering Storm Signal No. 1 in Luzon

Super Typhoon Bavi, internationally known as Inday, entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Wednesday morning. The system was located about 1,405 kilometers east of Northern Luzon at that time.

Maximum sustained winds reached 185 kilometers per hour with gusts up to 230 kilometers per hour. The storm moved westward at approximately 25 kilometers per hour while maintaining its intensity.

Storm Warning Signal No. 1 was raised over several Luzon provinces, including Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, and parts of Isabela. Additional areas such as eastern Kalinga, Dilasag in Aurora, and northern Catanduanes also received the signal.

The signal indicates minimal to minor threats to life and property from strong winds within the next 36 hours. No direct impact on the country was expected during the forecast period.

Heavy rains that fell over Metro Manila and surrounding regions on Wednesday were attributed to localized thunderstorms rather than the typhoon. Satellite imagery showed the storm remained distant from the metropolitan area.

Forecasts indicated that the southwest monsoon would be strengthened by Friday, bringing scattered rains across large parts of the country. The public was advised to remain cautious of upcoming precipitation.

The storm's projected path would keep it over the Philippine Sea, bringing it closest to Extreme Northern Luzon by Friday before it exits the area toward China on Saturday.

Bavi is expected to retain super typhoon strength until Thursday, after which it will weaken to a typhoon by Thursday afternoon or evening.
