The Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 33,000 vehicles in Canada due to a potential issue with its transmission park feature.
The affected vehicles have a parking pawl in the transmission that may engage accidentally while the vehicle is in motion, causing damage to the part.
When the vehicle is put into park, the pawl may not hold, possibly causing the vehicle to roll away.
Ford has collected 24 reports of property damage and nine injuries potentially linked to the problem.
A warning sign on the dashboard, indicated by a wrench-shaped icon, may light up to signal damage to the parking pawl.
The company advises owners to park on level ground whenever possible to minimize the risk of rolling away.
The recall affects several vehicle models, including the 2021 Ford F-150, 2018-2021 Ford Expedition, 2018-2021 Lincoln Navigator, 2020-2021 Ford Explorer, and 2020-2021 Lincoln Aviator.
Dealerships will update the affected vehicle's powertrain control module software to prevent potentially damaging the park system.
Dealerships will also inspect the transmission parking lock and replace any damaged parts for free, if necessary.
Customers affected by the recall will receive letters instructing them to make an appointment with their dealership.
Owners can check if their vehicle is part of the recall by entering their Vehicle Identification Number online at ford.ca/support/recalls or lincolncanada.com/support/recalls.
