The next-generation iPad is expected to bring significant upgrades to Apple's entry-level tablet, including a faster chip and support for Apple Intelligence features. The new iPad, set to be released in early 2027, will reportedly deliver a meaningful performance boost, making it a more future-proof choice for buyers.
For most buyers, the most important update may be coming to the most affordable model, the entry-level iPad. The current iPad, released in March 2025, is the only iPad that doesn’t support Apple Intelligence, a range of AI-powered features designed to enhance creativity, productivity, and real-time communication.
The new iPad is expected to feature a new processor, with most evidence pointing to the A18 chip. This would enable Apple Intelligence, allowing users to access features like Image Generation, Live Translation, Photo Editing, and Writing Tools. The A18 chip would also deliver a 30–40 percent performance boost over the A16, along with 8GB of RAM.
Other specs expected for the 2027 iPad include the N1 connectivity chip, which would upgrade the iPad to Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7, along with Bluetooth 6.x. For cellular models, Apple will likely use its in-house C1 modem, continuing its shift away from third-party suppliers.
While the new iPad is unlikely to evolve from its LCD panel, it is expected to have the same 10.9-inch display with 500 nits of brightness and 60Hz refresh rate. The design will also remain unchanged, with the same dimensions and weight as the current model.
However, there is a possibility that Apple could opt for the A19 chip instead, which would offer an even larger jump in performance. The A19 chip would also offer 8GB of RAM, essential for Apple Intelligence features.
The 2027 iPad cameras are also expected to remain unchanged, with the current two 12MP cameras and the 12MP Center Stage front camera. However, there is a possibility that Apple could update the front-facing camera to a new 18MP camera with a larger, square sensor.
The price of the entry-level iPad is also expected to remain unchanged, with Apple possibly keeping the price at $449. However, it's also possible that Apple could raise the price again due to supply-chain shortages.
We recommend waiting for the 2027 iPad if you're considering an upgrade. The next-generation iPad is expected to deliver a meaningful upgrade with a faster chip, more RAM, and support for Apple Intelligence, making it a much more future-proof choice.
