Belgian Snooker Star Luca Brecel Bounces Back from Mysterious Health Issue.
Luca Brecel, the 2023 world champion, has overcome a mysterious health problem that plagued him for much of last season. The 31-year-old Belgian Bullet has started feeling better and is back to his confident self at the table.
Brecel initially struggled with fatigue, which was a frustrating and unexplained issue. Despite visiting doctors regularly, they were unable to find a reason for the fatigue or a cure. However, Brecel has started to feel better, and the fatigue has eased.
When asked about his health issue, Brecel said, "It looks all good. I guess it's all good. I mean, if the doctor says so, maybe you have to trust them." He added that he never really found out what the problem was, but he's now focusing on enjoying his game.
Brecel withdrew from several events while dealing with the mystery problem but is now working to get his game back to the level that saw him win the World Championship and other ranking titles. He showed his desire to do so by competing in the Championship League on Wednesday, topping his group with three wins from three matches.
Brecel is determined to win tournaments and be in the top 16 again, saying, "I'm really motivated. I'm going to try to do the best I can, try to win tournaments and be in the top 16 again." He's also very focused and confident in practice, but he knows that results are what matter.
The Belgian Bullet's 2023 triumph was one of the most stunning World Championship wins ever, beating top players like Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mark Williams. Despite enjoying the win, Brecel found the attention that came with it to be distracting and not focused on his game.
Brecel is now keen to win another World Championship title, saying, "To win it twice, especially as a guy from Belgium, very young. To win it twice at age, I don't know, 35, maybe, who knows, that would be quite special."
Brecel will be back in action at the Championship League on Friday in his second stage group with Hossein Vafaei, Pang Junxu, and Ian Burns.
