Bayern Munich were among the clubs credited with an interest in 17-year-old Jesse Derry this summer, but the young player will instead head to Portugal for a season to continue his development.
Derry has signed a new deal with Chelsea and will spend a year with Sporting Lisbon, where he will gain valuable experience competing in the Champions League after the club finished second in the Primeira Liga last season.
The teenager made his Premier League debut in May and has already caught the eye of several high-profile figures, including Rio Ferdinand, who hailed him as one of the brightest young talents in the top flight last season.
Derry has been capped up to Under-19 level by England and scored twice in the group stage of the 2025 Under-19 European Championship, where England ultimately finished third behind Netherlands and Germany.
Despite interest from Premier League clubs Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest, as well as Championship outfit Southampton, Derry has opted to join Sporting, where he will have the opportunity to play in the Champions League and continue his growth as a player.
