Last week, the Durham Regional Police Services Board (SRPSB) announced that they have agreed with Chris Kirkpatrick's decision to end his employment relationship with the organization. The move comes after a thorough investigation conducted by the Law Enforcement Complaints Agency (LECA) into an incident that occurred during a meeting in late February.
The meeting was attended by officers, civilians, and members of the Afro-Canadian-Caribbean Internal Support Network. During the event, Kirkpatrick used the term "N" which was found offensive and contradictory to the values held by the Durham Police Force.
Durham Police Chief Peter Moreira addressed the issue at the time, stating that the words used were not directed at anyone, but they were still damaging and not aligned with the values of the Durham Police Force.
Following the incident, Moreira informed the SRPSB, leading to the decision to suspend Kirkpatrick with pay until the LECA investigation and finalization.
