Microsoft urges users to install Windows updates without delay

Microsoft has revised its guidance on Windows update deployment, urging users and organizations to install updates as soon as possible.

The change reflects a heightened risk environment where artificial intelligence accelerates the discovery and exploitation of security flaws.

Current recommendations limit the deferral period for quality updates to zero or one day, set a maximum grace period of two days, and advise applying updates within three days of release.

In June, Microsoft addressed a record 206 vulnerabilities, demonstrating an increased pace of remediation that underscores the importance of timely patching.

AI tools now allow attackers to analyze publicly disclosed vulnerabilities and develop functional exploits within hours, making traditional delays of several days or weeks unsafe.

Delaying updates to monitor potential stability issues is no longer considered prudent, as unpatched systems remain exposed to rapid AI‑driven attacks.

Microsoft also leverages AI internally through the MDASH system, which scans Windows code for suspicious patterns and coordinates agents to identify latent vulnerabilities.

Maintaining current patches together with reputable antivirus protection remains essential for preserving system security and privacy.
