A recent federal survey has revealed that the number of homeless Canadians has roughly doubled since the last count in 2022.
The study identified 12,857 individuals sleeping in unsheltered locations such as streets, parks, and abandoned buildings, while 4,700 were living in tent cities. Across 75 communities, a total of 65,083 people were experiencing homelessness on a single night.
The report noted an 89% increase in people sleeping in unsheltered locations compared to the previous survey, though no specific cause was identified for the surge.
