Arne Slot led Liverpool to the Premier League title in 2025, but the following season saw a string of signings fail to deliver and key players lose confidence, most notably Mohamed Salah who departed early. The club exited domestic cups and European competition in the opening rounds, slipping to fifth place with its lowest points total in a decade. Despite his initial success, Slot was dismissed in late May and replaced by former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola.
At the same time, the Dutch national team coach stepped down after a penalty defeat to Morocco in the World Cup round of 32. The search for a new manager is in its early stages, with several candidates under consideration. Slot is among those discussed, having been favored by bookmakers following the team's exit.
Slot’s résumé includes winning the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup with Feyenoord and reaching the final of the inaugural UEFA Conference League. Other potential candidates for the Netherlands job include former United and Arsenal managers Louis van Gaal, Erik ten Hag, and Ruud van Nistelrooy, as well as former Feyenoord coach Robin van Persie, who was recently dismissed.
The Dutch side topped its World Cup group but the penalty loss exposed tactical concerns. The national team’s performance has prompted a search for new leadership, and Slot’s experience at both club and international levels positions him as a viable option for the role.
