The ongoing scandals surrounding Maine Democrat Senate candidate Graham Platner continue to unfold, raising concerns about his fitness for office.
On Monday, Platner abruptly canceled multiple town hall events, sparking speculation that he may drop out of the race following a damaging hit piece.
Later that day, allegations of a sex scandal involving a woman who accused Platner of rape were released by a prominent news outlet.
Following the latest scandal, several of his prior backers, including Democrat Senator Ruben Gallego and Democrat Rep Ro Khanna, withdrew their endorsements.
One of his former girlfriends, 40-year-old Lyndsey Fifield, has come forward to describe her experiences with Platner, labeling him "cavalierly contemptuous of women's emotions, of our 'weakness'."
Fifield addressed the questionable reporting by a major newspaper in their coverage of Platner, claiming that they failed to corroborate her allegations despite her providing evidence, including the names of friends, former roommates, and other men she dated.
Fifield alleged that the newspaper only reached out to two of her contacts, those who would have only known about her timeline with Platner but not the abuse she suffered.
In a series of tweets, Fifield expressed her understanding of why Democrat leaders initially dismissed their stories but are now taking them seriously, stating that it was "by design."
Fifield claimed that she provided the newspaper with extensive evidence, including screenshots of messages, emails, and diary entries, but that they only used a small part of it in their reporting.
She also shared that she and two other women who accused Platner of abuse shared similar details of intimate partner violence, coercive control, and cycles of abuse/love bombing, but that the newspaper claimed they "could not corroborate" her story.
Fifield's allegations have sparked widespread outrage and raised questions about the reporting practices of the newspaper in question.
