Liam Halligan: The man behind Kate Garraway’s new relationship

Liam Halligan: The man behind Kate Garraway’s new relationship

Rumors have circulated that Kate Garraway and economist journalist Liam Halligan are in a romantic relationship. The speculation began after the former Good Morning Britain presenter was photographed at a local venue supporting Halligan’s band.

Garraway, 58, has been a prominent television presenter and documentary maker. She lost her husband, Derek Draper, two years ago after a prolonged battle with the lingering effects of Covid‑19, a journey she chronicled in award‑winning ITV documentaries.

Halligan, 57, is a seasoned economics journalist who served as the economics and business editor at GB News until mid‑2024. He has written a weekly column for a national newspaper and hosts a related podcast. He shares three children with a former partner, fellow journalist Lucy Ward.

The pair have known each other for over twenty years, with Halligan also being a friend of Garraway’s late husband. Their friendship reportedly intensified recently after both became single, prompting increased public appearances together.

During a radio interview, Halligan described their relationship as “early days” and emphasized that they are simply seeing where their friendship might lead. He noted that they were reintroduced by mutual friends and that the two had spent time together at a birthday celebration and a recent trip to Italy.

While Garraway has remained largely silent about the rumors, observers have noted several joint outings over the past few months, including a public event and a private holiday. The situation remains speculative, with no confirmation from either party beyond the tentative remarks made by Halligan.
