Sunderland's Chief Transfer Target Now Costs €60m

Sunderland have reportedly expressed interest in Sporting Lisbon winger Geny Catamo, but the asking price of around €60 million seems too high.

According to recent reports, Catamo's valuation has doubled since April, when it was estimated at €30 million. The Black Cats had a strong season in 2025/26, qualifying for the Europa League, but that does not necessarily mean they can afford to pay top dollar for any player.

The 25-year-old Mozambique international has a contract until 2028, and other Premier League clubs have also been linked to him in the past. If Sunderland do not move quickly, they may find themselves beaten to his signature.

Sporting Lisbon could potentially cash in on Catamo at a lower price, around €30-40 million. However, the club may be hesitant to lose too many players at once, which could explain the high price tag.

The negotiations over Catamo's transfer are ongoing, and it will be interesting to see if Sunderland can negotiate the price down. Meanwhile, Sporting look set to sell another player, Ousmane Diomande, to Nottingham Forest this summer.
