Former Democratic Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum arrested on methamphetamine possession and drug paraphernalia charges

Former Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum was taken into custody in Alabama after a traffic stop on July 2.

Law enforcement officers reported that Gillum was driving erratically on U.S. Highway 98 near a Walmart in Daphne. During the stop, officers discovered methamphetamine, marijuana and various drug‑related items, including cut‑straws, pipes and a bong.

Gillum now faces several charges, including unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

The arrest follows a 2020 incident in which Gillum was found in a Miami hotel room with two men who had overdosed. Body‑camera footage from that night showed police questioning a barely dressed individual.

Although bags of crystal meth were reportedly present in the hotel room, authorities chose not to pursue criminal charges at that time.
