Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.
The 28‑year‑old arrived at Newcastle in 2022 for a £40 million fee and has since become one of the club’s most influential players, helping secure Champions League qualification and a Carabao Cup triumph.
The transfer process stretched over six weeks, with Arsenal’s approach relying on intermediaries rather than direct contact, a method that left Newcastle’s management unsettled.
Although the club initially stated Guimaraes was not for sale, the player’s own willingness to move ultimately led the parties to agree on a deal.
Guimaraes will undergo a medical this week and is set to join an Arsenal side that finished as Premier League champions last season and reached the Champions League final.
Newcastle will feel the loss of a key midfielder but will benefit financially, with the combined transfer spend on Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, and Anthony Gordon totaling £245 million.
Arsenal’s summer signings now include winger Christos Tzolis, goalkeeper Illan Meslier, and the newly acquired Guimaraes, while the club also pursues a high‑profile deal for Vinicius Junior.
Manager Mikel Arteta described the club’s transfer activity as “very ambitious,” noting that further movements are expected in the coming weeks as the team seeks to improve.
