The Creamline Cool Smashers are embracing a new era, one that features a strong focus on youth and development. The team, an 11-time league champion in the PVL on Tour, recently broke in their new recruits in a dominant 25-18, 25-23, 16-25, 25-19 victory over Nxled in Ilaga City, Isabela on Wednesday.
Coach Sherwin Meneses expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, despite the absence of several key seniors, including team captain Alyssa Valdez and others due to various reasons. The young players, including setter Donnalyn Mae Paralejas, Ishie Lalongisip, and Sheena Toring, shone in their first game with the team.
Ms. Paralejas, a transfer from Petro Gazz, was particularly impressive, showcasing her skills in the opening set. She was fully utilized by Coach Meneses, who confidently entrusted her with key responsibilities. Ms. Lalongisip, recruited from Cignal, filled the spiking void left by Ms. Valdez, scoring nine hits throughout the game.
Other rookies, including Barbie Jamili from Adamson and Erin Pangilinan from Cignal, also demonstrated their potential, giving Coach Meneses a glimpse of their talent. The coach emphasized the importance of this experience for the young players, encouraging them to work hard and enjoy their time with Creamline.
The team's focus on youth development has raised expectations for the future. Coach Meneses praised the young players for their strength of will, ability to follow instructions, and commitment to the team's goals.
