The recent trend of raising the Somali flag in various Democrat-run cities has sparked concern among many Americans. Conservative scholar and historian Victor Davis Hanson weighed in on the issue during a recent appearance on a popular news program.
Hanson attributed the radical left turn of the Democrats to a combination of factors, with higher education being a significant contributor. He suggested that the massive student loan debt and the issuance of worthless degrees have created a recipe for failure.
Hanson pointed out that the university system has been promoting a melodrama of how bad America was at its creation, its founding, and its maturity. This narrative has been perpetuated for 50 years, down to K through 12, and has resulted in a generation of students with delusions of grandeur and a susceptibility to socialism.
The scholar also noted that the influx of 53 million immigrants, mostly from the third world, has put a strain on American society. He argued that the Democratic Party's welcoming approach to these immigrants, coupled with a lack of effort in civic education, has contributed to the erosion of the melting pot principle of assimilation.
Hanson emphasized that America has abandoned one of the principles that helped generations of immigrants become Americans. He believes that this shift has significant implications for the country's future.
The good news, according to Hanson, is that the current system of higher education is not sustainable and will eventually undergo significant changes.
