Trump warns EU will face steep financial costs

President Donald J. Trump criticized the European Union on Friday for imposing substantial fines on major American technology companies.

The EU penalties total $15 billion against Apple, $3 billion against Meta, $2.5 billion against Amazon, and an additional $1 billion against Google, bringing Google’s cumulative fines to over $18 billion.

Trump announced that his administration will launch a Section 301 investigation into the EU’s practices, describing the fines as illegal and discriminatory.

He emphasized that the United States will not serve as a “piggybank” for Europe and warned that retaliatory measures, including tariffs, could be imposed.

The administration indicated that the fines may be reversed and that the EU could face significant costs as a result of the forthcoming investigation.
