Chase has been steadily expanding its Sapphire Lounge network across the country, offering high-quality food and drinks, as well as amenities like facials and whiskey bars. The lounges have become popular destinations for travelers looking to relax before their flights. However, with the growing demand, Chase is making two notable changes to Sapphire Lounge access, effective August 15.
Priority Pass and LoungeKey members will no longer have access to the lounges. This change will likely be welcome news for many Chase cardholders but disappointing for travelers who have relied on Priority Pass for an annual Sapphire Lounge visit. Until now, Priority Pass members and LoungeKey cardholders could visit a Chase Sapphire Lounge once per calendar year, subject to availability, with additional visits available for a discounted $75 fee.
Eligible Chase cardholders, however, will continue to receive unlimited complimentary access to Chase Sapphire Lounges. This includes the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business, J.P. Morgan Reserve Card, and Ritz-Carlton Credit Card. These cardholders will also be able to bring up to two complimentary guests per visit, along with children under 2, and additional guests remain $27 each.
Chase is also extending lounge access for connecting flights. Beginning August 15, eligible cardmembers traveling on an itinerary with a connection can access a Sapphire Lounge up to five hours before their scheduled connecting flight, an increase from the current three-hour limit. This change is expected to benefit frequent travelers with eligible Chase cards, who will now have more time to relax and get work done before boarding their next flight.
The changes to Sapphire Lounge access are part of Chase's efforts to manage demand and preserve lounge access for its core cardholders. While the loss of Priority Pass access will disappoint some travelers, the expanded five-hour access window for connecting flights is a welcome enhancement for frequent travelers with eligible Chase cards.
